Hebrews 2:5-9
I. Call to Worship:  Psalm 9:1,2
II. Offering passage:   II Cor. 9:7,8
III. Scripture references:
  • Jonah 4:2 – “for I knew that You are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness …”

  • Phil. 2:6-8 - “although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”

  • Rom. 5:8,10 – “But God     demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us … For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God     through the death of His Son, much more, having been     reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.”

  • Rom. 5:9 – “Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.”

  • Rev. 21:4 – “and He will     wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away”

  • John 11:25,26 -  “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die.”
  • Acts 4:12 – “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”

  • Phil. 2:8-10 – “Being found in appearance as a man, He  humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth”

  • Rom 5:17 – “For if by the transgression of the one, death     reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.”
IV. Quotes:
  • G.K. Chesterton - ‘whatever is or is not true about men, this one thing is certain – man is not what he was meant to be’
V. Cross-references:
  • Genesis 1:26-31
  • Genesis 3:16-19
  • Romans 6:5-11
