Points of Interest
Psalm 124
I. Call to Worship:  Psalm 100
II. Offering passage:  Hebrews 13:15,16
III. Scripture references:
  • Matt. 7:27 - ‘the rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash’
  • Rom. 8:1  - ‘there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus’
  • Ps. 23:4 – ‘even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will     fear no evil, for you are with me’
IV. Quotes:
  • Spurgeon – ‘fowlers have many methods of     taking small birds, and satan has many methods of entrapping souls. Some are decoyed by evil companions; others are enticed by the love of dainties; hunger drives many into the trap, and fright impels numbers to fly into the net. Fowlers know their birds and how to take them; but the birds see not the snare so as to avoid it, and they cannot break it so as to escape from it.’
  • Spurgeon – (in God we have help)  “as troubled sinners”, being delivered from the     punishment and guilt of our sin. We have help as “dull scholars” being taught to know and understand God’s Word. We have help as “trembling professors” being witnesses to His Gospel, God giving us words to speak and blessing our testimony in the lives of others.  We have help “as     inexperienced travellers” on life’s journey, being guided on the right paths and kept from perilous pitfalls and wasteful detours. We have help “as feeble workers” being unprofitable servants at best, but God is blessing the work of our hands and making it of lasting value’
V. Cross-references:
  • I Corinthians 15:13-20; 55-58
VI. Notes:
  • if God had not been on our side, then we would have perished;
    but God has been on our side therefore we will praise Him

  • if the LORD had not been on my side, then I would have fallen away; but God is on my side and will continue to be by grace, therefore … I will praise Him
